By bringing together pupils, colleges and local business, and creating a space for students to feel more comfortable and confident the Careers Hub, Assistant headteacher at Redbridge High, Mrs Calder, and social landlord Cobalt Housing delivered an inspirational and informative educational event for the pupils at the school.
To highlight the opportunities available, the Careers Hub’s Enterprise Adviser for the school Kayleigh Clarke Project Officer at Cobalt Housing invited local stakeholders from North Liverpool to support the event along with Cobalt Plus; Cobalt’s in-house Maintenance team.
The Cobalt Plus team gave pupils an insight into the construction and planned maintenance world. Pupils had the chance of painting, litter picking and plastering, which was greatly received.
Myerscough College, based in Croxteth Park came along to inform pupils about their further education provision and brought along a selection of stick insects, which created lots of excitement!
Also, in attendance was Greenbank College who engaged the young people with a fantastic picture-based activity to help pupils understand the opportunities available to them.
Local business, Ella Bellas Pamper Parlour, came along with glitter tattoos and spoke to pupils about their party planning business.
Following partnership working with Cobalt Housing, Kayleigh was able to call on stakeholders; Together were stronger CIC and A.Ur.Tistic. Together were stronger CIC reps spoke about their careers in sport, mental health and gave the pupils a chance to do some low-level shadow boxing.
Local artist Sarah who delivers art expression and wellbeing workshops. Pupils were able to get involved in painting and learned about Sarah’s employment journey and how she is making a difference with young people across Liverpool to support wellbeing and break down barriers relating to mental health.
Charity, Daisy Inclusive UK also provided an exciting information session about their services which include sports, music, and employment support.
Miss Maddison of Mindful Education provided a range of sensory based activities that really helped to engage and relax the students.
Commenting on the day, Assistant headteacher Mrs Calder said: “We were extremely grateful to all the guests for giving up their time to come to school. It is so important that the pupils gain an understanding of the world of work and this event was successful in giving a fun and practical insight into the many different jobs that are available.”
Pupils who attended the day commented that the event was brilliant and that it gave them more confidence when thinking about the world of work.
Julie Jones, Enterprise Coordinator at the Liverpool City Careers Hub said: “I would like to thank everyone involved for making this such a special day for everyone. The event was a huge success with students taking away a great deal of confidence, knowledge and inspiration about the opportunities available to them.”
On the importance of Enterprise Advisers in schools Julie added: “The work of the Enterprise Advisers in schools across the city region is vital to connect schools with the world of business and importantly raise the aspirations of our young people.”
The Liverpool City Region Careers Hub, managed by Growth Platform – the Liverpool City Region’s growth company, are a national initiative run by the Careers & Enterprise Company as part of the government’s careers strategy. Careers Hub bring together schools, colleges, employers, and education providers across the region to make it easier for schools and colleges to improve how they prepare young people for the world of work.
